Career and Life Planning - Mock Interviews
Interviewing for Success
The students in Jacque Johnson’s Career and Life Planning class at Larned High School had a chance to look to the future and work on their interviewing skills on Tuesday and Wednesday. The students concluded a unit on career exploration and preparation by participating in mock interviews with local community professionals.
After working through the unit, which included writing resumes and cover letters, discussing interview dress and etiquette, and even common interview questions, the students were able to put their skills to the test in a real interview experience. With the help of June Barger, Jeanette Johnson, Brenda Langdon, Doug Lawson, Wendy Leiker, and David Zecha, the students practiced their interviewing skills, gained valuable experience, and caught a glimpse of what the future job search will entail. Although the students worked to prepare for their future job-search in class, nothing compares to the real-life experience of jumping into an interview. The students had a chance to think on their feet and really practice their interview skills.
After the interviews, the students reflected on their experience. Many said that the interview made them surprisingly nervous, but they were happy to have the chance to practice in a safe, learning environment. Each of the professionals had the opportunity to provide feedback and help to coach the students for future success.
We are lucky to have such caring and talented professionals in our community that are willing to spend time coaching and guiding our young adults.
