Letter to Parents
Dear Parents,
I have the pleasure to share an exciting learning opportunity with your student. The FACS class that your student is enrolled in, as well as students from the American History classes, will be taking advantage of a trip to Fort Larned to participate in Dual Survivor Day - Man vs. Prairie. The students will explore what life was like on the prairie during the 1800’s through challenges such as making a meal, raising a tipi lodge, saddling a horse, and rescuing a lost soldier. The students will have the unique opportunity to compare our daily tasks to the history of the area and get a taste of how nutrition and daily life has changed through the years.
This opportunity will take place on Thursday, October 13th. The students will depart from the high school at 8:05. Students should check in with their seminar teacher and immediately load the bus. The bus will return to the high school before the end of the school day at 3:15. There is no cost to the student for this opportunity, however, we do ask that each student bring their own sack lunch. There are limited spots available, so we will operate on a first come, first serve basis for participation. Students will need to get their permission slips in as soon as possible to ensure their spot. I will make announcements in class when all spots are filled.
Students will miss the entirety of their other classes on that day. Because of this, the students will be responsible for meeting with their other teachers to get any makeup work they will miss before we leave. If any student feels uncomfortable participating in the trip for any reason (does not want to miss other classes, etc.), they will be allowed to stay at school and will complete an alternate assignment during their FACS class time. Please have your student talk with me about any questions or concerns they may have and I will be happy to help.
I am so excited to be able to share this opportunity with your students! Please sign and return the permission slip form to me as soon as possible. Your child should have gotten the form in class. To ensure your child’s spot, please return the form early. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me by phone at the High School at 285-2151 or by e-mail at [email protected]. Field trip information as well as other updates about the FACS classroom is also available on my website at jwasingerfacs.weebly.com.
Thank you!
